Pottering About

February 19th, 2009

Weeks have passed since I excitedly clicked the order button for a shiny new microphone that would become my ticket to an audio presence. I now find myself in a very similar situation to a few months ago when I last tried to use eBay. So now having attempted without success to contact the third party seller I await Amazon’s reply to my claim. How annoying.

About a year ago I discovered the medium of podcasting after I had finally plumped up the cash for an 80gig iPod Classic, a purchase which has turned out to be one of the best purchases of my life (though not strictly because it was an iPod). My job has me in a loud, noisy workshop all day doing things that, while not simple on the face of it have been whittled into tedium by four years of doing it over and over again. Podcasting has made the last year pass a lot quicker than it might otherwise have and it’s only natural that I find myself now venturing into the world of audiobooks.

Having tried out a couple of novels by Stuart Hill, I thought I’d branch out into something more mainstream and have listened my way through the first two books of the Harry Potter series. I have been informed that this is something that I probably shouldn’t mention out loud as it is embarrassing. Personally I think any book that has made such a big impact on a generation should be read by that generation even if only to see what the fuss is about, but I liked the films anyway and I always try to read the books of films I like when they’re there.

The books in question are narrated by Stephen Fry, a man who, if you weren’t aware, has a very well spoken English accent, which brings me to my somewhat random thought. I am from Yorkshire, in Yorkshire we mostly pronounce the word forehead without ‘e’ in fore. “Fored”. I took this to be a northern thing but it seems that Stephen Fry also says the word “Fored” in place of “Forehead”. I find this strange. Almost as strange as I’m sure your finding the fact that I have written about this.

I’m liking the books by the way.
